Help Bring Max Home

$850 of $2,000 goal

Raised by 21 people in 44 months
Max got out of our house on March 8th. He's always been an indoor cat, so when he got out, he hid. Trying to find a black cat who's hiding is hard, and in fact he was only found on Saturday April 25th. We want him to get better and come home, and so I am asking your help in covering the costs of his care. If you can help me raise half the cost, I can manage the other half. Please give what you can, and if all you can do is pass the word, please do that. Thank you all and bless you all.

Hello, everyone! It's been a while since I posted an update to all of you, and I apologize for that. First, let me say how very thankful I am for all your generosity; between you, you raised over 40% of what I was hoping for, and that is amazing! Second, how he's doing. In a word, well. He still has his feeding tube in, but at the vet's guidance we're tapering off his food. He started with what was basically 1-1/3 cans of food a day, in four feedings, by tube; he's now down to about 1/3 by tube and the remainder by mouth, including treats and such. He's also put on some weight (the vet wants him to around 5 kg; he's at 4.6 to 4.7 now), and he's a lot feistier. Exempli gratia: This evening's "pilling of the cat" went 7 rounds for one of them (the one that needs to be an hour before feeding). I shudder to think what the other one will be like. But it's all good, because it means he's well on the way to being fully recovered. So, thank you again, everyone. My little black pest means a lot to me, and your help has made a huge difference.

Max had his first follow-up visit, and the vet is happy with his progress. He's getting feistier by the day, and made an attempt to get out of his enclosure today. The cone slowed him down :)

Thank you for your generosity, and if you're new to this campaign and would like to help, thank you as well.

MAX IS HOME! We got him from the vet this evening. He needs a recovery diet and has to be fed through a tube (you can see the end of it, the green thing, in the photo). He also has some meds - two of them are liquid and we can give them via his feeding tube. The other two are pills, which is going to be fun to give him :)

As you can see, we got him set up in the living room with a pet enclosure area so he has his space. What did the little muggins do? Started pushing the gate toward the cat castle, and once he had it up against it, was up and onto the cat castle like a shot! Had to nip that in the bud VERY quickly, as he's still a bit wobbly on his feet. The last thing I want is him trying to jump down and landing wrong and hurting himself. So... now he's sulking because I put a book rack against the pen wall to keep him from pushing it. This is going to be an interesting convalescence :)

The final vet bill was$5,200 after the deposit we'd already paid. So... yeah. Still needing all the help we can get. I hate to keep asking because it sounds like I'm ungrateful, and I'm not. I'm grateful beyond words for all the help we've already received... just we still need to keep asking. Please help if you can, and spread the word. Thank you all very, very much.
We are NOT amused.

Good news! Max should be able to come home this time (about 8 pm local) tomorrow! He had a feeding tube put in today; this is a different kind, meant to be able to give him pureed soft food rather than liquid nutrient. He looks massively unimpressed with the whole thing, doesn't he?

Once again, my very deepest thanks to all who have donated and shared this appeal for help. We're nearly half-way to the goal, so with virtual hat in hand, I continue to ask - if you can help, no matter how little, it's greatly appreciated. If you can't, please just spread the word. Thank you all and bless you all.
