Our Mission
The Big Sister League of San Diego, Inc. assists women in San Diego County by providing supervised transitional housing and supportive services. The League's programs are designed to empower, educate, and promote confidence and self-esteem. Our program is focused on the betterment of each woman, as well as providing a guiding hand to lead them toward independence. The Big Sister League of San Diego, Inc. is a private, non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization that has been serving women with a mental illness in the Greater San Diego area since 1942.
Our Housing Programs
The Big Sister League (BSL) provides food and housing for thirty three women, many of whom have a psychiatric diagnosis, substance use disorder, were homeless, or have survived domestic violence. The goal of our staff is to assist the women in returning into the community with the confidence to succeed despite having experienced adversity. To achieve this goal, the women are required to go to individual and group therapy, as well as receive psychiatric care on a regular basis. In addition, all women are involved in volunteer activities, work, or school for at least twenty hours a week. This is to help ensure their successful re-entry back into the community. BSL is passionate about giving our women a place to call home until they learn to stand on their own two feet. Nevertheless, until then we are here to hold their hand and make our house their home.
