The decision to become a teacher was one that did not come easily. My mom has been a teacher for nearly thirty years, so I spent a lot of my free time in a classroom and understood the challenges that come with teaching from an early age. As an active member of my high school FFA chapter, I had the opportunity to run for California FFA State Office. Even though my experience endly quickly, I was able to watch my best friend be elected to serve the state association for the next year. I realized that none of the amazing experiences I had would have been possible without my agriculture teachers; they helped shape and guide me through some of the hardest times of my life. Their actions inspired me to want to give those same opportunities, encouragement, and love to students of my own in the future.

I am extremely passionate about career and technical education, and its impacts on student’s lives. I truly believe that career and technical education can provide students with lifelong careers in high skill, high wage areas. I hope to be able to teach students technical writing skills in order to help increase literacy in students to help prepare them to be educated members of society. Having both knowledge and skill in this area helps me to stand out from others and create a unique learning environment for our future students.

Being raised in a single parent home has provided many challenges, both mentally and financially. I have two younger siblings, so my mom isn’t always able to help with my expenses in college. However, now that I am older, I value all the opportunities that my mom provided for me when I was younger that allowed me to be able to get to this place in my life. Because of my mom’s example, I developed a strong work ethic that helped to put myself through college. I held a job from the start of freshman year until I graduated, and while it was challenging to pay for all of my expenses myself, I have learned that only positive things can come from these challenges. Now that I have graduated, I am one step closer to finally achieving my goal of becoming a teacher but my financial hardships still pose as an obstacle. I wasn’t able to receive as much financial aid this year as before and it could be the difference between me finishing my teaching credential when I want to, or waiting to save the money to finish it later.

It is difficult for a self professed strong, independent young woman to admit that she needs help. But watching my mom open another returned charge from the bank, trying to figure out a way for her to make ends meet to the end of this month is too much. I cannot let her finish the Craigslisting to sell her car. Will you help me pay for my college tuition and help my mom repay the bills that have been returned due to insufficient funds?  Please let me say thank you for your donation with a most humble and grateful heart.
