Swim-A-thon 4 Gay Games Scholarship

Tax deductible
Despite what happened in Miami with cancellation of the 2017 Outgames and the disorganization of 2015 Eurogames in Stockholm, I still believe in the LGBTQ+ Sports Community and all that we can accomplish through sport.

Thus I have decided that the next charity I would support for my next Swim-A-Thon would be to help raise funds for the Federation of the Gay Games Scholarship Fund.

There are many reasons why a global event such as the Gay Games is still an important and relevant part toward our fight acceptance and equality for the LGBTQ+ Community. A sporting event taking place that opens itself up for LGBTQ+ athletes to participate and compete openly not only offers a safe space for athletes who come from communities were being LGBTQ+ can lead to prosecution or execution.

It also allows athletes to achieve their full athletic potential without the fear and pressure of being in the closet. In otherwise heterodominate sports and teams, this can have quite the impact on an athlete's confidence and self-esteem and hold them back from being able to compete at their full potential.

I am truly passionate about LGBTQ+ sport and what it can accomplish for our community and movement. Simply by hosting an LGBTQ+ focused (but not exclusive) sporting event, the Gay Games in it's 35+ year history has accomplished a lot to help advance LGBTQ+ causes by helping to empower LGBTQ+ athletes and building confidence and self esteem. Taking that confidence, self esteem and with a little bit of courage, athletes can return to their communities as a beacon of hope and inspiration to empower their communities as well as our LGBTQ+ to have more confidence and courage to stand up for what we believe in.

The Gay Games Scholarship fund exists to help athletes from underserved communities or are otherwise financially incapable of attending the next Gay Games. Due to be held in 2018 in Paris. By supporting this fund I hope to help encourage more athletes to apply and attend who might not have otherwise afforded the trip.

This cause is important to me, I attended my first Gay Games in 2010 and had a truly profound impact on my life. With the help of Gay Games I found focus and direction to pursue other goals and I felt like I belonged to something that was bigger than myself. My goal and passion in my career and life in general is to help other people find that kind of insight and experience for themselves. Gay Games has the opportunity to do that for many more athletes as we continue to grow and empower our LGBTQ+ community.

The Swim-A-Thon will take place on Sunday, January 7th. My goal is to swim 100 meters for every $1 raised. I will swim 100x100s for a total of 10,000 meters. All donations are directly contributed to the Gay Games Scholarship fund which is a certified 501c3 charity.

Thus your donation is tax deductible and I do not handle any of the money personally. You can find more information about the charity above or at www.gaygames.org
