Sweet Union Community Center

Sweet Union Dev. Corp is an organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of our forefathers who settled the Sweet Union community in the 1800's. They were slaves running from southern slave states, via the Old San Antonio Road(Hwy 21). Some who finished the journey went on to become free in Mexico, but many ventured off the path and settled in what was first called "Hogjaw" which was later renamed Sweet Union in 1899 by Nelson Jones who built the Sweet Union Methodist church. Others went on to settle in some surrounding communities.

SUDC is now trying to rehab a building to be used as a community center and help replace the roof of the old Sweet Union school building(Julius Rosenwald school) a three-room building that schooled all of the African-American students until the late 1950's.
