This is Bubba. He is a 1 year 8 month old cat I adopted from the SPCA 3 weeks ago. He came from a home where he was neglected and rarely fed, causing him to be underweight when he came to my care. Yesterday he suddenly fell ill, breathing through his mouth, drooling, fever of 106. He was just at the vet a week ago because he had huge bald patches and had to get a blood test to eliminate the possibility of it being a thyroid problem. His trial insurance isn't paying out so I had to pay for it out of pocket, and unfortunately now he needs another round of tests to find out what is wrong with him. I cannot afford the $900 course of treatment the vet has suggested, and the insurance company claims they didn't get my info from the SPCA so they have no trial policy for me. Bubba's only other option, as much as it breaks my heart, is to go back to the SPCA if I can't figure out a way to pay for his treatment. I wasn't prepared for such a young cat to be so deathly ill and in such poor health 3 weeks after adoption. All the SPCA can tell me, in a nutshell, is that if I can't pay his bills then I should return him.
He has been put on oxygen to help him breathe. I unfortunately cannot wait for the SPCA to figure out what's going on with the trial insurance. Bubba needs help now. I don't want to give him back to the SPCA if I don't have to. Euthanization is a possibility if it costs them too much to treat him, nor will I be able to adopt him again if he is successfully treated. Any help you can provide so I can bring him home would be much appreciated.
