SUSTAINED IN THE SHUTDOWN BOSTON
Our country is currently facing the longest government shutdown in history. This circumstance is having a detrimental effect on many federal employees and recipients of government benefits. Those most affected are having to make tough decisions between groceries, bills and healthcare. Most recently, we have found that there are families in Boston who have felt the effects of this shutdown first hand. As ministers we find this to be deeply troubling and feel that we as the CHURCH in Boston must do something about it.
We are writing to ask for your support in this effort as we act on our Christian mandate to feed those that are hungry and bear one another’s burdens. We are actively organizing clergy, elected officials, and advocates to come together and connect those affected most by this government shutdown with resources to help sustain their families. The primary issue is food security, and therefore we are working to connect those hurt the most with food pantries throughout the city to ensure that food is accessible.
We are also asking that you ask those in your network to contribute to a “Shutdown Fund” that will go directly to those families that are in need of financial assistance. These funds will be held in an account at Twelfth Baptist Church along with special offerings that churches throughout the city will be collecting on the fourth Sunday, January 27, 2019.
Lastly, we are asking that you use your public voice and influence to raise awareness of this effort by using your social media platform to share the coming video announcement, and use the hashtag .
