La Biennale - Susan Ferrari Rowley

Donation protected
Rochester's own Susan Ferrari Rowley is one of only seven Americans invited to “TIME SPACE EXISTENCE” as part of the 18th Venice Biennale of Architecture.  Only thirty sculptors were selected from an international field and the inclusion of Susan, an early visionary of fabric sculpture, cements her artistic legacy.

The exhibit will run from May 26th until November 25th and host over 300,000 visitors.

The invitation came with an extremely short timeframe and an expectation that each invited artist will cover  fees related to mounting/dismantling of the exhibition, placing qualified personnel at the site, publicity, customs, shipping and much more.

Susan's career has spanned four decades and is marked by stellar exhibitions, contributions to the Rochester community in terms of education and aesthetics, and a number of awards including the 2013 Visual Artists Award from the Arts & Cultural Council of Rochester. Outside of Rochester, Susan established a strong Manhattan presence thanks to her decade-long relationship with with the famed international OK Harris Gallery.

Susan is proud to represent Rochester and the United States in this endeavor. She is hoping that lovers of art and sculpture can help crowdfund her professional dream come true.

"The acceptance of fabric as a sculptural medium in the art world grew out of my desire to consistently push the creative envelope. For over 40 years I have put my work into competitions that caused critics and judges to question existing standards for what was thought of as a ‘proper medium for sculpture.'  My career chronicles the change in the art world's perception of fiber usage from craft, to soft sculpture, to fine art craft, and finally to sculpture."

I have spent my life working for the Rochester community, teaching at Nazareth College, Rochester Institute of Technology, and most recently, Monroe Community College. I have given freely of my time and donated work for many causes over the years, and now I am asking for help, to represent Rochester in this iconic international exhibition. Not only is this an honor for me, but it is a testament to the depth of the art talent found in Rochester.

Grazie!
