English: On Monday, Martin was admitted to the hospital and the surgery took place as planned Tuesday morning. It went pretty well and he woke up again in the afternoon. Wednesday was a difficult day but that was predicted to him already beforehand. However, on Thursday, he was able to get up and walk around with a rollator (wheeled walker). Now he only suffers somewhat from dizziness but in the next couple days he will hopefully find his balance again and get back to normal in about 3 months. The tinnitus and the hearing loss on that side will probably remain. Next Monday or Tuesday he will probably leave the hospital.

Deutsch: Am Montag wurde Martin in das Krankenhaus aufgenommen und die Operation fand wie geplannt am Dienstagmorgen statt. Sie verlief sehr gut und er wachte am Nachmittag wieder auf. Mittwoch war wie bereits vorher angedeutet ein schwieriger Tag. Aber am Donnerstag konnte er bereits aufstehen und mit einem Rollator herumlaufen. Nun kämpft Martin eigentlich nur noch mit Schwindel, aber in den nächsten Tagen findet er hoffentlich sein Gleichgewichtsgefühl wieder und in rund 3 Monaten soll alles wieder normal sein. Der Tinnitus und Gehörverlust auf einer Seite wird aber wahrscheinlich bleiben. Am Montag oder Dienstag wird dann das Krankenhaus wahrscheinlich verlassen können.

My former teacher and friend, Martin Proebstle, dean of the Theological Seminary at Seminar Schloss Bogenhofen in Austria (Link), has to undergo a difficult surgery at Tübingen, Germany. Six weeks ago he was diagnosed with an aggressive acoustic neurinoma, a benign tumor in his acoustic canal. This tumor is growing fast, filling already the cerebellopontine angle and reaching the brain stem, and has to be surgically removed as soon as possible. Such surgeries are not done very often in Austria, which is why they recommended to him to have it done at Tübingen. The surgery will happen on July 24. However, the Austrian health insurance will not pay for a surgery in Germany. It would be extremely helpful if you could help lift Martin's financial burden.
Mein Freund und ehemaliger Lehrer Martin Pröbstle, Dekan des Theologischen Seminars in Bogenhofen, Österreich, muss sich einer schwierigen Operation in Tübingen, Deutschland unterziehen. Vor 6 Wochen wurde bei ihm ein aggressives Akustikneurinom, ein gutartiger Tumor in seinem Hörkanal entdeckt. Dieser Tumor wächst schnell, füllt bereits den Kleinhirnbrückenwinkel aus und hat den Gehirnstam erreicht, und muss so bald wie möglich operativ entfernt werden. Solche Operationen kommen in Österreich nur selten vor, weswegen ihm empfohlen wurde, die Operation in Tübinge vornehmen zu lassen. Die Operation wird am 24. Juli stattfinden. Die österreichische Krankenversicherung bezahlt aber keine Operation in Deutschland. Es wäre daher extrem hilfreich, wenn ihr mithelfen könntet, Martins finanzielle Last zu tragen.
