Surf4DEM goes to South Africa

Surf4DEM was invited to be part of the 2018 International Surf Therapy Conference to be held in South Africa. As a non-profit organization we are very proud to be part of this conference where our leader, Dr. Giovanni Martínez, will be sharing our experiences in Puerto Rico for the last 5 years. 

We are very proud to represent our island on this global conference where we will meet other professionals in this field. In this conference we will learn about different types of Surf Therapy and how other organizations collect data from their research. We will also learn how to collaborate with these organizations, how we can collect bigger data and what are the challenges and benefits of sharing the collected data.

We are looking forward to expand our knowledge in this field so we can improve our program in Puerto Rico. We expect to learn from other surf therapy organizations and apply new methods including the best practices in this sector and child safety.  

The ISTO has offered assistance with accommodations for 2-members of Surf4DEM in JBay July 9-14th (Including breakfast and lunch). We are creating this GoFundMe to help us with the traveling expenses since airline costs only are $2,500 per ticket.

Surfing has demonstrated to have a great impact in mental health. With your help we will be able to make it to South Africa and come back home with new ideas to benefit this population, not only in Puerto Rico but at a worldwide level.
