As most of you will know, Korky Pascoe has been battling EDS and related challenges for many years and has, for the last two years, been cared for full time by my beautiful friend Samstar Button.
Although, for most of this time, Star has been paid as a carer, almost four weeks ago Korky made the courageous decision to withdraw treatment. At that point, Star moved in to care for Korky 24/7 and, once Korky was moved to a hospice a week ago, has been there every day. For the last four days, she has been at the hospice 24/7 to help nurse Korky and reassure her.
Since treatment was withdrawn, almost four weeks ago, Star has received only limited payment for her nursing of Korky. For the first two weeks in January she was her 24/7 carer, and, now, is at the hospice 24/7 with no income and no other financial support.
As her friend, as someone who has witnessed the tremendous sacrifices Star has willingly made, I feel, very strongly indeed, that this is grossly unfair, and should not be allowed to continue. Star should not be in debt, or unable to support herself, because she has chosen to support and nurse her best friend.
In addition, Star, as someone who has given so much, and also has an EDS diagnosis, will need time to rest and recuperate before beginning to look for work again.
I’m asking all of her friends, and everyone who knew Korky, to help support Star at a time when she needs our help.
