Supporting Amanda, Shannon, Nolan & Kay
Donation protected
In early March 2019, Amanda was diagnosed with pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer that has spread to multiple places in her body. Due to the rarity of her cancer and the advanced stage at diagnosis, this is not a curable cancer. There are, however, several treatment options that Amanda and Shannon are pursuing to better Amanda's quality of life.
In late March, Amanda underwent surgery to allow her digestive tract to bypass the obstruction made by two tumors that were preventing her from digesting food. In late April, she began chemotherapy in hopes of shrinking the tumors and slowing their growth. Chemo treatments will be recurring from here on out.
Many have reached out asking, "What can I do?" While nothing can make this season of their lives a happy one, there are things that can at least make it less stressful.
Serious illnesses such as this cancer are all-consuming, and the financial burdens they bring often rival the emotional ones. Treatments, medication and at-home medical equipment are just the tip of the iceberg. Between the surgery and chemo, Amanda has already exhausted all her paid sick time for the year, and while she has a handful of vacation days left, it is only May. With the constant stream of appointments and treatments, there is a consistent need for childcare for Nolan and Kay.
There are not enough words to fully capture the all-around unfairness of this diagnosis. The hope is this gofundme can help everyone in the Farrington/Ricketson family focus their energy where it needs to be — on Amanda's wellbeing.
Please know that any and all support you can offer their family is greatly appreciated. Whether it is a donation here, a quick note to check in or some Serenity by Jan candles, your continued consideration makes this truly difficult time for their family slightly more bearable.
