Dear Family and Friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I have to write this. Many of you know my brother Michael has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The last couple of months have been very emotional and frightening for him and our whole family.
We all love Michael very much and to see him suffer the way he has in the last couple of months has been awful, especially because we didn't know what was going on with his health, just that he was having a lot of stomach pain and loss of appetite. We initially thought it had something to do with heat exhaustion he experienced while working in the desert at the end of June. That was when the symptoms started and he began losing weight. In September things really started taking a turn for the worse. After going to the doctor on his own and multiple ER visits, only a couple of weeks ago it was discovered that he has a cancerous lesion on his pancreas. With further tests the doctors have confirmed that it has spread to his liver, colon, stomach and other places. This news has been devastating and a shock to many of us. So many people have stepped up wanting to help and our appreciation and heartfelt thank you's cannot even express how we all feel.
Unfortunately, Michael will not be able to return to work and has not been for over a month now. My mother has also stopped working so that she can take care of him full time. Thankfully he does have medical insurance and will get disability soon which will help cover some of his expenses, but not all of them. We definitely, and especially him, do not want to burden anyone with his expenses but due to a number of gracious offers it has been suggested that we set up a donation fund so that family and friends can help. All the money that is donated will be used for his medical expenses and his & our moms living expenses while she cares for Michael. We want to help him fight the cancer as best he can, making him as comfortable and cared for as possible through this difficult journey ahead and while he lives out the rest of his life.
We want to thank everyone again who has already sent their love and prayers. To see our family and friends come together the way you all have has meant so much to Michael and to the rest of us.
