Brief background

Hello!

My name is Edward Chibueze Mbanasor. I was born and raised in South-East London, England in a low-income household; I had several academic attainment and skill and experience acquisition challenges to overcome in my pursuit for admission into medical school ever since I was 10 years old.

The 10 year old in the middle was thinking about a medical career for some reason.

After several ups and downs, I have finally received an unconditional place to study Medicine from September 2018 at the University of Leeds, England, United Kingdom. This opportunity meant so much to me I encountered 3 rejections before being successful during my 4th application cycle. After each rejection I focused on self-improvement to ensure that every ‘t’ that was not crossed was crossed and every ‘i’ that was not dotted was dotted.

Why am I asking for your support?

As a graduate prior to starting a medical degree, I have no access to a state provided tuition fee loan to help with the cost. Having recognised a hurdle I could use a set of hands to help pull me over it. So far, I’ve taken a year out from academic study to raise money through employment. I currently work as a healthcare assistant. However, after estimating my potential income, there is a funding shortfall I need help with to reach my financial goal. Therefore, I am looking to raise money to help cover initial tuition during the first year of the 5-year course as an addition to the funds I will personally save through employment.

My cause

This would help me to kick-start the realisation of my dream of empowering many to take control of their own health and lifestyle. Also, I am passionate about playing a role in the fight against various lifestyle-related diseases such as cancer, of which my mother is a survivor, and preventable conditions such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and depression which have contributed to prematurely ending several lives of my family members in Nigeria, my country of origin. Because of this, my paternal and maternal grandparents passed away before I could meet them. They passed away before their time simply because of inadequate healthcare.

I myself had my life saved by the healthcare system after surviving a life-threatening hit-and-run road traffic collision, aged 14 in 2008 (read full story here ). From the moment I left the hospital bed, I was inspired to pursue entering the speciality of Sport and Exercise Medicine after fully understanding the value of having intact brain, spinal cord, muscle and bone function which can be very easy to take for granted.

As a result of the above mentioned experiences, my philosophy towards health and well-being is ‘prevention is better than cure’. I have a strong interest in public health and the underserved preventative and lifestyle medicine.

Deal or no deal?

Money is simply a means of exchanging value. If you believe that what I am doing is truly valuable then this is an opportunity to play a role in adding depth and meaning to the lives of others with me as a tool.

There is no such thing as a self-made person so I have presented a great opportunity to help 'make someone' in a worthy cause. In exchange for your contribution I will be given the platform to provide healthcare to those most in need and play a role in informing public health policy.

Will you invest in me so I can invest in others? Let’s make this a reality! Your donation in exchange for my lifelong public service that is needed, useful and lifesaving - that’s got to be a great deal!

Your support will certainly go a long way. Who knows? You may need a potential doctor such as myself in future - it is a small world after all.

I would be glad and honoured to assist!

What you would be contributing towards

Your contribution(s) will go towards first year tuition fee cost (£9,250).

A donation of any size would be greatly appreciated! If you are not in a position to donate, then share! Sharing is free and is almost as helpful as donating.

Your financial contribution in perspective

- £50.00: Budget mobile tablet device
- £20.00: Budget headphones / speakers / one-month gym membership
- £10.00: Movie ticket
- £5.00: Cheeseburger meal

Feel free to give any amount you choose. Even a small amount will go a long way!

Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you in advance for any donation you kindly decide to give. It would mean a lot to have your support for a cause that saved my life. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
