Only 4 days before his first Boston Marathon trip, on April 11th, tragedy struck Peng Chen. While on his way to the bus station after work, Peng fell and hit his head severely causing massive brain bleeding. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center where a craniotomy (surgical opening of the skull) was performed shortly to reduce the internal pressure. Peng remained in a coma for 5 days. He is fighting trauma, infection and pain for a recovery.
We all know Peng by his always optimistic attitude, strong sense of humor. A husband, father of two, talented engineer, passionate musician, and hard core runner, Peng inspires and influences everyone around him. As we runners all deeply understand what a Boston Marathon qualification means, we feel even more heartbreaking after seeing he has to miss the opportunity to fulfill his dream in Boston this year. We all believe Peng will be strong as he had run all the distances to win his entrance to the Boston Marathon. He will win the battle against the devastating trauma.
While we pray for the full recovery of Peng, we sincerely appreciate any gesture of kindness from you, which will be invaluable to support him and his family through this difficult time.
