The LaTorre family is one of our Chase School families and our hearts have been inclined to help and support them at this time.
They live and serve in the west side of Humboldt Park. Surrounded by gang violence, they've set up their home to serve and love the community. John pastors a church and Bethany works with high risk youth in the area. Together, along with their 4 small children have embraced their neighborhood and have dedicated their home, finances, and hearts to help bring hope and restoration in their community.
Their line of work, although difficult at times, is their love and passion. They are a beacon of light in Humboldt Park.
Recently, they have gone through a very difficult time with their youngest child, new born baby Zion. At his 6 month check up, Zion was diagnosed with Muscular Spinal Atrophy. MSA disables and deteriorates muscles preventing many parts of human function. Currently, Zion is at home with John and Bethany with machines helping him to breath and eat.
AS OF LAST YEAR, MSA was researched and was given a glimmer of hope. Doctors have created medication that can subside the disease and allow the carrier to grow and function. John and Bethany hold on to that hope and so do we! Their dream is to have Zion breathing, eating, and walking on his own. Also, to have him join our Chase family! But, the cost of the medication comes at an extremely high price.
Each dose is worth $125,000.
Zion needs 6 doses.
With insurance situations and lack of availability to work consistently, they could use financial help.
