On May 22, 2019, Marion County Tennessee Sheriff's Office Detective Mary Beth Raulston was accidentally shot with an AR-15.  The bullet shattered Detective Raulston's femur and tore through the muscles in her leg.  Several law enforcement officers from multiple agencies immediately rushed to her aid fearing that the bullet had also pierced the femoral artery.  Law Enforcement escorted the ambulance carrying Detective Raulston nearly 30 miles to the nearest trauma center.

Detective Raulston underwent several hours of surgery to repair the bones and muscle tissue in her leg and is currently in stable condition at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Detective Raulston  is no stranger to battling medical issues because she is also an ovarian cancer survivor.  Detective Raulston will have to under go several months of healing and therapy before she can return to work.   Detective Raulston's medical bills will be covered by her employer but the hidden costs of her recovery may not be covered which includes the loss of work by her family and friends who will be staying with her to take care of her needs.

Detective Raulston has been a law enforcement officer for 21 years and in her current assignment she conducts investigations involving child abuse and sexual related crimes.
