On Monday, February 4th our close family friend and father to 4 elementary age children, Sheikh Usman, who was visiting the hospital for what he deemed a minor issue, suddenly passed away from a heart attack while there. Sheikh Usman fought hard to see his children grow up, to educate them, to put them to bed, to make a great life for them. He left behind a homemaker wife (Shazio Bano Shaikh) and 4 children, Ali (age 12), Abdullah (age 7), Humza (age 5), and Sarah Bano (age 4). Seeing his kids tear struck face after seeing their father, their role model, their everything getting buried, I decided that we as a community must look after his kids, and that I would do my utmost to look out for their well-being.

Usman was a young, smart, entrepreneurial, religious, and loving family man. He was an active member of his religious community and was intimately involved in his mosques daily affairs. He was that uncle who always gave money out to the children on Eid because he believed that a child’s prayer was very powerful (every child growing up knew him as the Dollar-Walay Uncle). In fact, that was one of the first few ways he found his way into every childs heart that he interacted with. He would always volunteer to help plan community events as he saw it as his duty to work for the people. But alas, health has no rulebook, class, religion, race, or creed. It can be taken from anyone indiscriminately at its will and wreaks havoc on them and their loved one’s lives. It is our job as the community to step in and negate its effects.

As the prayer rituals commence, reality is beginning to sink in with the realization that the father, husband, and sole bread winner of the house is no longer here. With medical terms, prayers, and wishes of wellbeing all passing through the family’s ears, all that the mother and her young children see is their father not being with them ever again.

Repudiating the fact that the family was shocked at the sudden death, Sheikh Usman had a bright future planned ahead for his family with his unwavering determination to educate his children so that they, like him, could fruitfully serve the community. Everyone strongly believed that he would always stand tall and wrap his arms around everyone he met with his signature bear hugs like he used to. That vision was far from what everyone was suddenly seeing: his children weep over their fathers passing. No distance can ever separate his love for his 4 beloved young children. Even if he’s not here anymore, he is always in the family and communities heart as a loving and kind-hearted man.

Usman’s wife, Shazia Bano, family friends with Faisal Waqar Chaudhry, as much grief as she’s in, is reaching out to local county officers for assistance, but having little to no experience in dealing with issues such as this and having little fluency in English, she can only do so much under the stress and pain that she is in while caring for her 4 young children. She really needs our help to stabilize her children’s lives.

Sheikh Usman’s family is in desperate need of help and don’t understand how they’re going to make ends meet, how they will make their rent payments, groceries, car insurance, gas, utilities, and the children’s necessities. Usman’s friends have helped the family to the best of their abilities, but the family knows that they can only depend on others for so long. Now it is our turn to help Usman’s family during their time of need.

As of right now, we are uncertain of the total amount needed for the expenses. The family would sincerely appreciate all the help during this grave time. I will keep everyone updated on their recovery. Please keep the family, especially the children, in your prayers.

FAQ:

1. How you are related to your beneficiary

I am a family friend.
2. How exactly you will be delivering the funds to your beneficiary or using the money on their behalf
I am delivering the funds via Bank of America Cashier’s Check in the name of the Mom, each of which I’ll be sure to take a photo of in case anyone was interested in seeing the checks. Mom is not technically savvy so I’m stepping in to assist her best I can.
