Support Sandy Bloom & Family

Those who know Sandy Bloom know that he will always make you laugh, give you a hand anytime you need it, and that he loves his family more than anything.

But on March 21, 2017, the laughter paused, he became the one who needed help, and family meant more than it ever had when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). What was a simple trip to the ER for a swollen and painful leg ended up an evening of life-changing information.

Immediately following his diagnosis, Sandy was admitted to St. Joe’s Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, where he began aggressive treatment, including chemotherapy. He spent 3 and a half weeks there, while his wife Amber kept up the day-to day routine for their children---6-year-old India and 18-month-old Elijah---in Sedona, AZ, two hours away.

His future treatment will involve (at least) a second round of chemotherapy, and ultimately a Stem Cell transplant from a matching blood donor. The recovery process from the transplant will require 3-4 weeks in the hospital in Phoenix under close, critical observation, followed by an additional 3-4 months of weekly follow-up clinic appointments and observation. It is necessary for him to reside in Phoenix during this time with a 24-7 “care person”, as the medical staff refers to it. Unfortunately, Sedona does not have the facilities to support the ongoing cancer treatment Sandy’s condition requires, and his wife and children will need to temporarily relocate to Phoenix.

Although ALL has a very high rate of remission and recovery, the word “marathon” best describes the slow and steady pace it will take to get Sandy to remission, and hopefully, full recovery. Sandy and his family are looking to the end of 2017 for their hopeful “Finish Line”.

While health insurance helps, it does not cover the full costs of treatment, and Sandy will not be able to return to full-duty work until 2018. All donations made will go directly to providing support to Sandy and his family during this time, as well as additional care and treatment costs that arise.

Thank you so much…every little bit helps!
