Our Friend Robyn
The Why
For the past 15 years, Robyn has been successfully dealing with various degrees of pelvic regional pain, abnormal tissue growths, and dysfunction. In 2004, she braved a 4-hour laparotomy to remove 3 grapefruit-sized endometriomas and she was subsequently out of commission for 8 weeks. Over the past year, Robyn has battled back and forth with her insurance company and doctors to settle on a plan of action to manage the unfortunate development of several enlarged uterine fibroids and two cystic lesions around her left ovary. Robyn’s current symptoms include: sharp, debilitating pelvic pain, fatigue, and decreased sensation along her left leg. Her medical team has now recommended complete removal of the uterine masses and possible removal of her left fallopian tube and ovary. However, there is also a possibility to remove both tubes/ovaries, a hysterectomy, and/or surgical staging for possible tissue malignance (if detected).
The Who
Robyn is one our closest and most amazing friends. She is our go-to-girl, the life of the party, and our shoulder in rough times. She has been a constant center of support, love, and encouragement for so many of us all over the years. Robyn is simply a friend who embraces her “role” and never sees it as a burden. She would literally give you her favorite chambray shirt off of her back if you needed it instead. Robyn always steps up for us, so now it is our turn to come together and to do what we can to support her.
The Ask
With her surgical date pending Feb 11, 2019 we anticipate that she will experience a significant post-operative recovery period. It is projected that she will not be able to work or even carry out her basic activities of daily living for at least 6 weeks. While we serve as her friends and FAMILY, we will be helping with meals, transportation, and her daily routine. However, we are also looking to raise at least $4,000 to help support her household bills for the next two months.
