Support refugees with mental illness

Donation protected
Somali Forgotten Minds Project supports individuals with mental illnesses in Somalia and Kenya. In the meantime, we are focusing on supporting refugees residing in Dadaab Refugee Camp, Kenya. Somalis have one of the highest rate of mental illness in the world. It’s our mission and vision to bring change and end the stigma surrounding mental illness. We are currently partnered with Dadaab Media Channel, a local NGO, to support individuals that are mentally ill and raise funds for the individual so they may receive mental health treatment in a nearby mental facility. An update consisting of videos/photos are shown to the donors via social media sites.

The project was founded by Aaliyah Nur Mohamed-Yusuf, who resides in Fairfax, Virginia. She’s a also a mental health advocate for the project and works closely with Dadaab Media Channel to ensure that all patients qualify for mental health treatment at Nairobi Private Hospital. Donations are 100% used for mental health treatment and any funds remaining is used for the patient’s basic care needs like shelter, food, and water. Upon completion of health treatment, the patient is discharged and returns home. Funds are sent via Dahabshil, an internationally recognized money transfer company.
