Over the Lege is a political satire comedy show that seeks to educate Texans about state politics through comedy sketches, musical numbers and improvised bits, and encourages audience members to get more civically engaged at the local level. Can you name your state senator? (Hint: it’s not Ted Cruz) Ever wonder why the Lieutenant Governor takes an excessive interest in where you go to the bathroom? Want to know what’s going on at the Texas Capitol, but feel like the news is too depressing? If you answered yes or no to any of the above questions, then Over the Lege is for you!
The show started out as an idea in long-time legislative staffer Stephanie Chiarello's mind. "I call them my Texas stories" says Chiarello. "Watching committee hearings and chamber floor debates can be more entertaining than any soap opera. Just the characters aren't as handsome." She started taking notes on the shenanigans occurring in the Texas Legislature and pitched a comedy show idea to The Institution Theater. In 2016, we launched with a sold out run at the Institution Theater. In 2017, we performed at the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival and had a second sold out run at TIT. We followed up on this success in 2018 with a bi-weekly TV show on Austin Public Access television featuring all knew sketches and guests.
This sharp and funny satire of our own Texas Legislature returns for Over the Lege Part 3: Return of the Legi (slature) on October 12-14th at the Long Center in the Rollins Theater. This will be our biggest venue, seating over 130 guests, and we're excited to share our show with a larger audience in Austin.
However, This project, like so many creative endeavors, has been self-funded in the past. We are honored to receive non-profit status and support from the Austin Creative Alliance this year, and be the recipient of a City of Austin Cultural Arts Division grant. However, we need more community support to successfully fund this civic-engagement theatrical project. We'd like to have some costumes and even set pieces for the great big theater.

Sponsorship levels and their benefits are:
Intern Level - $35: Your donation of $35 will earn you a general admissions ticket to the OTL show of your choice, and provide a free ticket to someone who could not otherwise attend the show.
Staffer Level - $100: Your donation of $100 will earn you two VIP tickets to the OTL show of your choice along with a free drink, provide a free ticket to someone who could not otherwise attend the show, and a professional photo with our guest.
Representative Level - $250: At the $250 level, you will be a sponsor of Over the Lege which will include 6 VIP tickets, 3 free drinks, and a professional photo with our guest for you and your 5 guests. You will also be named on our sponsorship board.
Senator Level - $500: At the $500 level, you will be a sponsor of Over the Lege which will include 12 VIP tickets, 6 free drinks, and professional photos with our guest for you and your 11 guests. You will also be named on our sponsorship board.
Lt. Governor Level - $1,000: At the $1,000 level, you will be a sponsor of Over the Lege and receive 25 VIP tickets, 12 free drinks, and professional photos with our guest for you and you 24. You will also be named on our sponsorship board.
Governor Level - $5,000: At the $5,000 level, you will be a sponsor of Over the Lege and receive 100 VIP tickets, 50 free drinks, professional photos for you and your 99 guests, your name on our sponsorship board, and a role in one of our sketches (or we'll write a sketch all about you - your choice).
