Melissa and Duane have a love like no other. It's the kind of love that you read about in books and watch in movies. They both have had heart aches in the past but when these two are together, their love for each other just radiates! Melissa and Duane tied the knot May 9, 2015. This is one of the happiest days in their lives! God made Duane for Melissa, and Melissa was made for Duane. They are best friends and are the happiest when they are together. They have 6 beautiful children: Tj, Toni, Kelly, Keith, Cheyanne, and Wyatt.
Tragedy struck this family on Sunday October 16. They were going home to Hodges, SC from visiting Duane's family in Wahalla, SC. They were riding Duane's motorcycle, enjoying the fresh air and spending time together, when a car turned right in front of their path. We know that Duane did everything in his power to protect the love of his life by laying the bike down, but unfortunately he and Melissa were ejected from the bike. Unfortunately Duane was killed on impact while Melissa laid unconscious. When a lady and man got to the scene, they said Melissa wasn't breathing, then she gasped for air. They talked to and prayed over Melissa and kept her calm while the ambulance was on its way.
When at the hospital the doctors found that Melissa has a fractured skull, broken ribs, and bumps and bruises. She currently is at Anmed Hospital in Anderson, SC in the neuro-intensive care unit. She has suffered severe brain swelling so the Doctors placed her into a medically induced coma to try and help her body and brain heal. Melissa is in critical condition but she is a Fighter!! A CT Scan was done yesterday, and it showed that some of the swelling had gone down and that Melissa was reacting to all of the tests positively.
Unfortunately this morning her brain started to swell again, so she is currently in surgery for the doctors to try and relieve some of the pressure in the brain.
No one has been able to tell Melissa about Duane... we all fear that if she knew, she may would give up. She has a huge support system comprised of family and friends. We are asking for your support and prayers to help this wonderful family and this Beautiful Child of God pull through this! Her children and family need her to continue to fight and pull through this tragedy.
The family is wanting to do a memorial for Duane. Somewhere that Melissa and the kids can go to remember just how great of a person he was. Duane was a wonderful Father who loved his children with his whole heart. Through the short time of their marriage, Duane proved that he loved Melissa with such a passion. Duane was such an amazing person to be around. Fun loving, funny, down to earth! Duane could put a smile on anyone's face!
Please uplift this family in prayer and help support this family and pray that Melissa can overcome this obstacle placed in her life. She has a long road ahead of her and needs all of the support, prayer, and love she can get. Pray for each of their children as they lose a father that loved them each so dearly. Pray for God's comfort and peace wash over them.
