Support Meghan's Fight Against Breast Cancer

Donation protected
On April 17th, at the age of 25, my sister, Meghan, was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer, which we later found had metastasized to the lymph nodes beside the site. She found the lump herself and certainly was not expecting a diagnosis of aggressive breast cancer since the chance of being diagnosed in your 20's is about 0.06%. Due to her age, the doctors immediately recommended an egg harvest, followed by an aggressive treatment plan of chemo, a double mastectomy, and radiation.

She is to start chemotherapy next week, which will take place every 3 weeks for four months. Following that she will have a double mastectomy, in which the recovery time is about 6 weeks. Once the surgery is complete she will start radiation, which will be every weekday for 5-6 weeks.

Fortunately, Meghan has good medical insurance that covers most of the cost of her surgeries and treatments. However the egg harvest was not covered, and there is still a lot that it does not account for. Each round of chemo (6 sessions) alone costs approximately $30,000, which insurance only pays 80% of. Not to mention infusions every 3 weeks for the next year of immunotherapy. She will also need to cover living expenses while she is going through treatment and healing, as she will not be able to work through the entire process. Travel expenses for second opinions and back and forth to Denver have also been costly and not covered.

Since she was diagnosed, her main focus has been scheduling doctors appointments, treatments, surgeries, and planning to be gone for months at a time.  Her plan is to live as normal of a life as possible, while she works as much as she can and coaches her swim team, but some weeks she just will not be able to.

Many people think that this diagnosis at a young age is easier, but it actually makes some of the process more challenging. She has had to consider whether or not she wants to have children, if she would like to risk being able to breastfeed them, what type of surgery she should have since the chance of reoccurrence with so many years ahead of her is higher. Meghan has had to make so many life decisions in a short amount of time. That is why I am putting together this gofundme, to assist in alleviating some of the financial worries she is dealing with and help her with the stress of it all. It's one thing I can do for her and one less thing she will need to worry about. Any help you can offer will make a huge difference!

Even though this is tough, Meghan is incredibly positive. She is so grateful to have an amazing community of friends and family supporting her. The love she has felt from everyone is so encouraging and is making this fight a little bit easier. Again, thank you so much for being there for her. Together we are strong, Ecclesiastes 4:10.
