Support Marando's family

On 2nd December 2017, we lost a wonderful friend and colleague. Marando was a wildlife guide at a safari lodge in the Serengeti, Tanzania, where he had worked for 26 years. He was injured in an elephant attack on the night of 30th of November 2017 and died two days later in Hospital in Arusha. This sort of incident is something we all risk in the bush; its so beautiful there we forget it’s also very dangerous .
Marando was a modest, patient and wonderful man, with a kind heart, impeccable manners and so passionate about the animals that he saw every day. Marando loved the cats best of all; lions were his favourite; he knew all of our lions by name and had an uncanny knack of knowing where they were and how to find them. He seemed to think like a cat. He would stubbornly turn every game drive into a search for lions, and refuse to acknowledge that anything other than lions could be interesting! Even the Christmas Tree expedition always took twice as long because “last week there were lions just over here”!
For many years Marando introduced guests from all over the world to the wonders of the wildlife around us, and many of these guests would return time and time again to spend time with Marando on safari.
Marando leaves behind a wife, a 12 year old daughter and a 6 month old son in a country where there is no governmental support. This fund has been set up by Ndutu Safari Lodge because we want to honour Marando and all that he meant to us. Thank you for your contribution of any size - the money raised will go towards ensuring that his wife and children are well cared for and educated.
We are asking that all who knew Marando come together and support his family.
