As our parents' recent visit to Australia to spend time with grand kid was winding down, we suddenly faced enormous roller coaster of emotions. We saw our dad, Durga Prasad, battle 3 cardiac arrests over a short span of 2 days but to our great fortune, he managed to power through to survive, 11 days and counting (fingers crossed).
He was diagnosed with Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia(an arrest caused by myriad bodily complications) and has been undergoing several procedures including the insertion of an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator(ICD) device, to stabilize his heart during any such future event at the Westmead Public Hospital, Sydney.
While he was recovering in the hospital a couple of days later, we were horrified to helplessly witness dad get a brain stroke. A clot that formed in the heart(perhaps during the cardiac arrests or during ICD install) travelled to the brain, resulting in a brain stroke, debilitating his left side completely apart from impairing his cognitive capabilities.
As we pull ourselves together emotionally, the other reality of this event is the immense strain on our financial situation. Although we had purchased visitor's insurance, we've been informed by the hospital/insurance folks that any hope of our claims will not stand much of a chance with links to some or the other pre-existing condition.
Our family would greatly appreciate any help to get us past this hump! While we don't wish such a misfortune to anyone we pledge to continue to pay it forward to the community.
