Support La Esperanza Granada

Amid the chaos of today's news cycles, the story of the crisis in Nicaragua is getting lost to many of us. Here are some articles that paint a picture of what is happening:

In addition to the violence, thousands have lost their jobs as businesses have been forced to close due to the unrest. In the midst of all of this, La Esperanza Granada , a volunteer organization focused on improving the lives and education of impoverished children living in Granada, Nicaragua, is working hard to keep their learning centers open for local children to find some semblance of normality.

In addition to using its now limited resources to keep the learning centers open, LEG is trying to put together a program where they can employ locals who have lost their jobs due to the unrest in the learning centers in exchange for a weekly package of basic necessities.

With volunteers and funds lacking, however, they are struggling. In my last email with LEG's director, she described the mood as "sombre and a little fearful with little optimism". She wrote that "there are just three things we really need at the moment, they are volunteers, funds and hope."

I started my career in education at La Esperanza, where my husband and I met volunteering back in 2014. Currently the organization has lost nearly all of its volunteer staff. They are operating under incredibly strained conditions with very limited resources.

LEG is a non-political organization, and they believe the best way to help the local children is to stay that way. They are doing very important work on the ground in Granada, and any donations made here will be channeled directly to them. This is an organization that has made such a difference in so many lives of both the children of Granada, but also the volunteers that have traveled from all over the world to work with them. Please consider donating what you can and sharing this campaign with your friends to help those on the ground in Granada during these difficult times.
