It was an enjoyable weekend away at the lake, camping with family and friends. Everyone at the campsite was enjoying the lake life, fishing and swimming. Suddenly, tragedy struck when Kamile was nowhere to be found. After searching for several minutes her father was able to rescue her as she was drowning near the pier. Through the efforts of first responders and paramedics, she was able to survive the horrific accident and was taken to Madison Hospital where she spent two weeks in the intensive care unit. She was then transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital. A week later, Kamile was sent to an inpatient rehab center where she remains today. A long road to recovery is in front of Kamile and her family, and the prognosis is still uncertain.

Kamile is making small but progress every day. She is slowly starting to eat, talk, and walk with the help of medical professionals. While she is making phenomenal improvements, her medical needs and recovery process will be a challenging and lengthy one. Her family is seeking to start a treatment that involves hyperbaric chambers. The goal is to finish 40 sessions, which cost anywhere from 200 to 600 dollars each, and other procedures that are not covered by insurance. These treatments would be immensely important to her continued recovery. While one day she will be released home, Kamile will need to continue psychological and physical treatment sessions to help her adjust to her new situation.
