Support Jim Gift's Family

$2,605 of $5,000 goal

Support the medical and living expenses for Jim Gift and his family! Jim Gift's wife went to the emergency room for a routine kidney stone a month ago and ended up having a kidney removed and the following sepsis infection leading to a medically induced coma. Jim Gift is a diligent and hardworking first-year law student. Since this happened Jim has been going back and forth between the hospital and classroom. Jim has not missed a single class and has remained active, upbeat, and positive. Jim's wife was working to support Jim through his law school endeavors and wanted him to succeed. These unexpected medical expenses are extreme but are even more cumbersome in addition to Jim not being able to work during his first year as a law student. Please support Jim and his family. Jim is constantly looking out for other's interests in the classroom and is the first to offer support and advice to his fellow classmates.

Good morning everyone! Jim sent me an update to share. Everyone is busy with upcoming finals but please remember Jim and his family. Jim is still dedicated to his studies and helping his wife heal. Please share this page and thank you again to everyone for donations, sharing, and moral support helping Jim through the most difficult time and his first semester of law school.

"First I want to thank everyone for their help. Whether you gave or shared our story you have my gratitude.

Melissa is out of ICU. She was moved to an advanced rehab unit a week ago. She still cannot talk because of the size of the Tracheotomy however, she has been breathing with no assistance for almost 3 days now and will likely be downsized soon. She even stood up several times last week. As small as that sounds it was the best thing I've seen in a month. We are still hitting our fair share of complications. She has developed a hernia which carries its own risk. She also still spikes the occasional fever and has been vomiting for the last couple days. The doctors have said this will be a months long recovery process.

On the home front your giving has paid the bills at least through Decembers rent. You have made it so I could stay in school where I otherwise would have had few options. I'm working on finding a job for the winter break and hope to land a paid position for spring semester with the school (we are not allowed to work outside of the law school during first year). That will help a little bit and hopefully get us to the end of January when the second half of student aid money comes in.

Again your generosity so far has humbled me. I hope to share more good news soon.

Melissa is waking up! Melissa is going longer periods without sedation. Melissa is, understandably, anxious about all the tubes and the tracheotomy that had to be put in but Melissa is able to recognize Jim, her mother, and grandparents. Jim told me a December discharge date is ambitious but not impossible. Even when she is discharged the family will have to endure the additional expenses of a rehabilitation facility. Jim is very grateful for the donations and wants to thank everyone. He is positive Melissa will be extremely thankful that Jim's Bowen family was able to keep him in school. There is another go fund me circulating. Let's see if we can reach our goal of $5k first, as a friendly and supportive competition. Thank you to all that have donated and shared so far and if you have not yet: PLEASE SHARE! Thank you.

Ms. Gift is still in the medically induced coma as of this morning. Jim said the doctors are encouraged by some responsiveness she is showing. Jim is relieved and touched by the generosity of the Bowen student faculty and is very thankful to have some of the financial burden lifted. We raised $925 in less than 24 hours! I know we can meet our goal of $5000! Even if you do not have money to donate SHARE THIS PAGE! Thank you everyone!
