Send Girls to School in Zimbabwe

Donation protected
Please help us raise $12,000 to educate young girls in Chikomba, Zimbabwe!

About Us
Launched in 1998 by the first group of girls supported at secondary school in Zimbabwe by the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), the CAMFED Alumnae network (CAMA) was formed to provide young women with crucial peer support at the point of leaving school, and empower them to step up as leaders and activists in their communities. CAMA recently surpassed 120,000 members in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana, Tanzania and Malawi - representing a powerful new force for change across sub-Saharan Africa.

United by our background of rural poverty, CAMA members empathize with the significant challenges faced by vulnerable children in rural communities. Additionally, having been supported through school ourselves, we have a strong motivation and commitment to reach the next generation of girls. Since 1998, CAMA members have directly supported more than 784,000 children through our own philanthropic efforts. Each CAMA member, on average, supports two more girls to go to school and rallies community support around the most vulnerable.

More About Our Project
Funding of $12,000 would allow the Chikomba district chapter of CAMA to support 1,000 adolescent girls with materials such as uniforms, bras, sanitary pads, and stationary packs which many families are unable to afford. The lack of these essential items keeps some of the most marginalized girls from attending school.

The Chikomba district chapter of CAMA has 1,188 members who are actively working to make their communities stronger and more inclusive for the most vulnerable girls. Some of our recent activities include raising more than $1,200 locally to procure sanitary pads, notebooks, and uniforms for students in need, and providing for all of the needs - including food and clothing - for children in our communities who are living in the most desperate situations.

A box of sanitary pads can cost more than a rural family’s weekly wages. Menstruation can keep girls out of school. You can help change that.

"Our purpose is to help those in need, prioritizing children with disabilities, from struggling families, orphans and child headed families. We are lacking enough finances to meet the needs. We have supported those we can up to now but the number is big.” - Rebecca, a CAMA leader in Chikomba.

How Funds Will Be Used
Funding of $12,000 would enable CAMA members in Chikomba, Zimbabwe to support 1,000 of the most vulnerable girls in their communities to stay in school and succeed. This vital support will build on already existing levels of CAMA philanthropy and activism - meaning we can reach even more girls.

Specifically, the funds will be used for:

• Supporting 100 girls with school fees: $4,000
• Purchasing uniforms for 30 girls: $1,650
• Purchasing sanitary pads for 1,000 girls: $3,000
• Purchasing bras for 50 girls: $250
• Purchasing stationary for 100 girls: $1,200
• Delivery costs associated with identification of girls most in need, procurement, and distribution of materials: $1,900
