The Paw Family

Hi Family and Friends,

I have the privilege of knowing the Paws - a beautiful Karen refugee family. The Paw family consists of Mom, Frankincense (10 years old), Myrrh (8 years old), and Gold (4 years old). Myrrh has been sick since birth with an autoimmune disorder called Beta Thalassemia Major, and he went to the Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha in April for a bone marrow transplant. After his transplant, his lungs stopped working and his torso filled with fluid. He went to the ICU on May 11th and has been there ever since.


The doctors originally said that Myrrh would be out of the hospital by mid-June. His mom and I created a savings plan for them to be able to cover bills for that period of time. The doctors are now saying he has an additional 60 days minimum in the hospital. 

Right now the Paw family is unsure of how they are going to pay rent, car insurance, medical insurance, and their other bills. Myrrh's mom was working full-time at Farmland in Crete before she took FMLA to be with him in Omaha. Since she came to the U.S. as a refugee from Thailand, she has been working over 40 hours a week (since Myrrh was a baby) in order to support the family. Myrrh's father left the family two years ago, and they are not receiving child support.

Without our help, this family will be homeless by next month. If you have the means, I'm asking that you donate to help this family pay their bills so they can leave the hospital on secure footing. This family is very important to me, and any contribution is much appreciated. <3
