During the week of January 23rd Shalon Maureen Irving experienced a significant medical crisis. It is with a heavy heart that we share that our cherished family member, dear friend, and colleague passed away on Saturday January 28th, 2017. At just 36 years of age, Shalon had just recently given birth to the joy of her life—her 3-week old daughter Soleil. As you may imagine this is a time of incomprehensible sadness and grief for her family. This GoFundme Memorial has been created to help ensure that their immediate needs are addressed as they attempt to cope with this tragedy. I am Caree Cotwright, a native of Atlanta, GA. Shalon was a dear friend of mine. We met while completing the Kellogg Health Scholars Program postdoctoral fellowship at Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD. We later "joined forces" again when we worked together at CDC. Shalon was a beautiful spirit and I was overjoyed that was living her best life in Atlanta. The funds raised from this campaign will be used to support the Irving family during this difficult time.
