Please help a very special young woman who has spent most of her young life giving to others.

On behalf of Miranda’s family, this Go Fund Me page has been created to help assist the Crohan family; to support the medical care of their beautiful 20-year-old daughter Miranda; and the financial burden of the extensive medical expenses they are incurring and will continue to incur in Miranda’s treatment, rehabilitation and recovery.

Miranda suddenly fell critically ill on November 30, 2017, and suffered significant brain injury. She has been in intensive and progressive care units at Florida Hospital Tampa since that time.  She has suffered numerous significant medical complications and undergone extensive testing and treatment over the past two months. Unfortunately, Miranda has not yet made the progress toward recovery that was hoped for. Doctors are working to determine the precise cause of her condition and the best course of treatment going forward. The road to recovery will be a very long journey for Miranda and her family and will likely include extensive therapy (physical, speech, occupational, neurological, hyperbaric oxygen, etc.).

Miranda’s parents, Sherri and Bob, have spent every minute of the last few months by her bedside in Tampa, which is 75 miles from their home in central Florida.

Miranda’s life before she became ill with AE is an amazing and inspiring story. When Miranda was just 18 months old, she was diagnosed with a rare life-threatening cell disease, Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH). She had chemotherapy treatments for 5 years and underwent numerous surgeries to conquer the disease. And though Miranda recovered from LCH, she suffered adverse effects from her prolonged treatment, including permanent damage to her pituitary gland, which resulted in diabetes insipidus.

Miranda worked extremely hard to overcome these obstacles and succeed in school and life, all while giving back to others.

When she was 10 years old, she created Miranda’s Merry Mission, a charitable endeavor to raise funds for holiday presents for sick children at the oncology clinic at Nemours Children’s Hospital, where she had been a patient while sick with LCH.  In the ten years since starting Miranda’s Merry Mission, she has been responsible for providing in excess of $14,000 in gifts to hundreds of sick children. More importantly, she helped bring smiles to the faces of these children. Miranda is always thinking of others and Miranda's Merry Mission is her way of giving back to help other children battling serious illness.

Through her determination and extraordinary hard work, Miranda graduated summa cum laude from high school in 2016 as a member of the National Honor Society and was in her first semester at the University of South Florida in Tampa when she became ill with AE.

Throughout all her years of battling illnesses, Miranda, a true warrior, always rose above any pain and misfortune, and grew to become a brilliant, creative, and wonderful young lady. She is the most compassionate, courageous, kind hearted, and giving person imaginable. She is a unique and very special young lady. In her mom’s words, “a beautiful soul.”

Kindly consider donating to help support this beautiful girl and her family, who are on a very long journey back to health.

Help to SHARE Miranda’s story, and our mission to support Miranda and her family toward her road to recovery.

Please keep #BRaverStrongerSmarter and  #MirandaStrong in your thoughts and prayers!

Thank you all for the generous donations, encouraging thoughts and prayers you have all provided over the past few months.

Miranda has been on a roller coaster for the past several months, with many ups and downs. She had been doing very well with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) over the summer, but unfortunately developed a gastrointestinal (GI) infection that led to many seizures and five weeks in the hospital during the period from mid-September to early November. Miranda has been back home for the past four weeks and is doing better but still experiencing some GI issues. On December 10th Miranda will be undergoing a procedure that we hope will lead to a significant improvement in her GI condition and put her in a better position to continue to make baby steps of progress.

The plan going forward is for more HBOT, which we trust will continue to benefit Miranda. Several of her doctors also believe Miranda would benefit from stem cell therapy, and we would love to move forward with this treatment.

Bob and Sherri care for Miranda around the clock. One or both of them is always by her bedside and awake 24/7 to care for her medical needs and provide loving comfort and companionship. The family has suffered a dramatic drop in income and the need for help in funding ongoing treatments for Miranda is enormous. HBOT and stem cell therapy are not covered by insurance and are very expensive.

Please consider sharing our campaign page and please continue to keep Miranda in your thoughts and prayers so that her recovery can continue to move forward.

Thank you all for the generous donations you have made to Miranda's Go Fund Me campaign. Since its formation, donations have helped to pay for medical care, tests, and expenses (approx. $5,000), prescriptions (approx. $3,000), transportation (approx. $5,500), enteral nutrition (approx. $5,000), medical supplies (approx. $2,000), and specialized treatment and therapies (approx. $7,500).

We are happy to report that Miranda has taken some baby steps in the right direction over the past few months, despite suffering a number of seizures, which resulted in two extended hospital stays.

She has started her second round of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and has been able to discontinue several of her medications. There are numerous treatments and therapies that we intend on pursuing in the future to help Miranda make the best possible recovery.

With your continued prayers and support we are confident Miranda will continue to move forward in her recovery.

The Crohan family is blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives. We are so very grateful for your continued support and ask that you share Miranda's Go Fund Me campaign so that we can continue to provide for our precious daughter.

As mentioned in the previous update, Miranda was seen at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville for a second opinion, and her recovery is likely to take much longer than any of us had anticipated. Her family has decided to care for her at home and will be beginning treatments with new doctors in the upcoming weeks. Your generous contributions have been so appreciated and have funded medical transport from Mayo Clinic back to their home, as well as the first month of prescriptions totaling over $1200, medical supplies, the rental of a wheel chair accessible van for transportation to appointments, and enteral nutrition (not covered and also totaling over $1000 monthly).
Your generosity is truly helping every step of the way on Miranda's road to healing, so again thank you all so much. Xo
