Local soccer players know the Canton Cup is one of the most anticipated events of the year. Great weather, great friends and great soccer! Ireland’s heart was racing before a game, and unfortunately it wasn’t because of nerves. An urgent care trip where her heart rate was north of 200 bpm, led to an ambulance ride to UofM Mott. After a few days of testing Ireland’s athletic career has been prematurely stopped.
Ireland was diagnosed with an extremely rare case of ARVC (Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy). She is very young to get this grave diagnosis and Mott treated this case with high priority. After many tests, they discovered that her heart will require 100% monitoring with a defibrillator to maintain heart beat consistency. They identified damage to both sides of the heart from this disease. They surgically placed the defibrillator next to her heart on May 29th and it was a complete success. At this point, Ireland will need constant care for her heart until other options will need to become available. Her playing days may be done, but Ireland is not walking away from the game. A bright coaching career is in her future!
Both of Ireland’s parents went unpaid while they were with her in the hospital. Her medical bills will not be fully covered from the emergency care she received, the surgery, as well as any on going care in her future. Please consider donating to help Ireland’s family get her well, and to not have to worry about how to pay these astronomical medical bills.
