Support for DREAMer Daniel Ramirez

Donation protected

Last night, I saw the news of Daniel Ramirez Medina, a 23-year old from Seattle who is being held by immigration authorities despite his DACA status.  It's not clear if the detention was accidental, or meant to inject fear into all these youngsters, or if it is really the beginning of deportations of the 750,000 DREAMers.

DACA was enacted by the Obama administration to help these kids go to work and school legally in the only country they've ever known. This program gave these kids hope that they had a legitimate future in this country. However, the Trump administration has failed to  make clear whether they'll continue to recognize DACA status. If you don't know much about DACA or DREAMers, this feature in the New York Times is an amazing narrative of the fear, helplessness and hope these young adults and teenagers encounter daily.

I am working with several agencies to get in touch with the family, but in the event we're not able to, all proceeds will be donated to the Northwest Immigrants Right Project, the pro-bono legal group that is working to defend Daniel and others like him.

I, like I'm sure many of you, have spent the past few weeks oscillating between wanting to put earmuffs on and not being able to tear myself away from the daily insanity of the news.

In absence of being able to be driven to tears by each and every news story, I've decided the piece I want to take action on is immigration.  In particular, I've been moved by the story of children who came to this country illegally as young children.

Any amount you can donate helps. Let's show the Ramirez family how many people in this country are rooting for them and give them one less thing to worry about.
