We are coming together to remember Andre, and offer support to his family in this very difficult time.

Andre was known to everyone he met as a rare, powerful presence.  He was impossible to miss at a party; if something noticeable was happening, Andre was frequently behind it.  His vivid wit and booming oration turned total strangers into fans and friends. He made every gathering he attended feel like a bonafide event, even if it was something as simple as a group of friends collaborating on a jigsaw puzzle.

When Andre wasn’t writing or drawing, he was usually making collages or filming surreal sketches with friends and colleagues.  His art formed a vast and wondrous world, the landscape of which could shift quickly from wickedly humorous to sober, insightful, and melancholy.  For every wild image he rendered in words or paint, there was an equally grounded observation of the human condition, which was a testament to Andre’s multifaceted nature.

When you read his writing or observed his art, you got the sense that you were seeing the madcap tip of some fantastical iceberg; everything he created invited more consideration, more exploration, and frequently evoked powerful emotions and a sense of empathy in his audience.

His friends will remember him as someone they could have deep, sincere conversations with, someone who set aside everything else in the world to be present for his loved ones.  Andre would listen intently and without judgment, then speak from a place of total sincerity and compassion. He was open about his own fears and struggles, but never eclipsed the needs of others with his own.

Andre’s spirit carries on in the works that he left behind; in collaborations for Seattle’s 48 hour film project; in the short, quirky productions he did with Flying Puppy Productions; in his contributions to the Thunderdome Flash Fiction contest; in the art that he shared freely with his friends, and in the memories of those who were privileged to know him as a creator and a friend.

NOTE: Money from this campaign will be used supplement funds for his final arrangements. The remainder will put toward the curation, publication and distribution of his creative work for others to enjoy.  We are making preliminary efforts toward a Memorial Art Show in his honor and will keep this page updated as that effort progresses.
