Erika has had an accident that landed her in the ER! She fell hard, got caught in a self closing door and dislocated her left knee cap. She cannot walk or bear weight on that leg. Doctor visits and an MRI later, told that this is a serious injury—with blood on that knee, torn ligaments, bone bruising —that recovery may take up to 3 months! This is devastating news because, as you may know, Erika makes her living as a self employed artist, traveling to art festivals across the country. So far, she has had to cancel her three August shows. Not only has she lost the income from those shows, she also has lost the sizable booth fees from canceled shows. At this time she is also unable to create her usual work. She has a rigorous fall art fair schedule with five shows in four states booked. It is as yet unknown if she will be able to do these shows that her livelihood depends on. Driving (stick shift) and the needed strength and stamina to set up and sell at an art fair is not possible now or in the near future. With further show cancellations will come loss of non-refundable booth fees and income.
As if this were not challenging enough, Erika needs to move her studio, to an as yet unknown place.There is a shortage of studio space in her city of Duluth, MN so this is adding to her stress.
Erika has graced us all with her arts activism and vibrant creativity that she channels into stunning, award winning eco-art wear. Her positive, uplifting, generous spirit has touched so many of us. Her love and knowledge of human potential, nature and simple lifestyle combined with a lyrical work ethic are an inspiration!
She clearly needs us, her dear community, to rally around and give her the financial support she needs to live, heal and begin to work again. This money would help recover lost income — past and future— to pay monthly bills, medical costs, physical therapy not covered by insurance, and all of the other unknowns that could show up in her life.
