Emily is a 29 year old administrator at Tulane University. As a New Orleans native and a graduate of Imacculata High School, she has dedicated her life to the service of others. She recently returned from Washington D.C. where she earned her masters degree in bioethics and worked for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as an Executive Assistant in General Council. She is known for her kind nature and willingness to help those around her.

On February 21 of this year, Emily was admitted to the hospital for what she thought was a migraine headache. After further testing, Emily was diagnosed with a brain tumor and they were able to remove most of the tumor in surgery two days later.  As she awaits further testing to determine the severity, one thing we do know is that this will require rigorous and costly treatment. Emily just began a new job at Tulane and is not eligible for FMLA. Her husband, Anton, is a Religion teacher at Archbishop Shaw High School and has been by her side constantly. Our hope is to help alleviate the financial burden so suddenly placed on this newly wedded couple as they attempt to navigate through this very trying time. Please consider donating to help our sweet Emily and her family in any way you can.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform you that our dear Emily passed on last night. She was surrounded by her family and they were praying the rosary as she took her last breath. I am sure that is how she would have wanted it.

I want to thank all of you for your incredible generosity in helping lessen the burdens placed on them during her illness. They both were so very touched by the many people that reached out to help them.

Please continue to pray for the family as they walk through this time of grief.

Emily you will be missed. Thank you for the many lessons you taught us. Particularly to love without ceasing and to live every moment to the fullest. We love you honey!

I apologize for not posting an update on Emily sooner, to be completly honest I was waiting and hoping to have some good news to report.

Unfortunately we have come to a hard place in Emily's care. The doctors have told them that they have exhausted all medical treatment options and Emily has moved into hospice care. This does not mean that Emily and Antonio are quitting but rather they are trusting in Gods providence and will follow him wherever he leads them in this. It is never too late for a medical miracle. We have already seen miracles in others through this.

Emily has lost a great deal of her hearing as well as a lot of her vision but her spirit remains strong as does her love for her family and friends. We had a "Cancer Party" on Saturday for her friends and family with over 50 people coming in and out. It was so moving to watch them all recall stories with Emily of their adventures together and to hear Emily laugh. It was obvious that she has brought a great deal of joy and love to a lot of people in her short life.

Please continue to pray for Emily, Antonio and her family as they carry this heavy burden. Antonio told her he would help her carry her cross right up to the gates of heaven and I know he will. The strength he has shown and the love that this man has for his bride is one of the most beautiful examples of how God calls us to love. He is truly laying his life down for her.

Thanks so much for all of the prayers and support for Emily and Antonio. Just to update you on the situation.

Last week Emily had some more tests and unfortunately
The Surgeon said that from what they can tell from the partial MRI they did, the tumor is proliferating a bit. He said this happens with this type of tumor but not every single time. It seems to be spreading into Emily's corpus coliseum which makes further surgical options very limited.

Emily started radiation today and chemo last night. They are both hopeful that she will respond well to the treatment and better results will be seen.

Please continue to pray for them and to share this gofundme page. It is going to be a long, hard and expensive road for the two of them and they can use all the help you have to offer.

Thank you so much for all of your help!!!

The following is from Emily and Antonio.

“Hello friends,

Today Emily and I had the follow up appointment with the surgeon to discuss the pathology results. Emily's tumor is a glioblastoma, grade 4 (the highest and most aggressive type).

The road ahead will definitely be long and arduous. She will have to have various appointments and check ups etc. Next steps are radiation and chemotheraphy.

Emily is so very grateful for your support, prayers and faith. Thank you so much! We love all of you.

Antonio and Emily”

It’s hard to understand why they have to walk this path, we don’t know the plans that the Lord has in this. But we do know that he loves Emily more than we do and we stand on this. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
You have all been so wonderful in supporting them so far. Thank you! We ask that you please continue praying for them and for their family as they walk this difficult road together. This is hard and they are going to need the support of their friends and family in ways that we don’t even know yet. We will continue to keep you updated and ask that you share this post with your friends as well.

Jesus we trust in you.
