Story:
Cancer had the audacity to challenge Duane Ayers this spring. After already beating cancer twice, Osteogenic Sarcoma his senior year in high school, and Buccal Squamous Cell Carcinoma 8 years ago, it returned with a vengeance this time as Multiple Myeloma.
Normal plasma cells are important for a healthy immune system and are found in the soft tissue of your bones (bone marrow). Multiple Myeloma is a nasty cancer caused by malignant plasma cells. It is also known as Kahler’s disease. This is a rare cancer that affects the kidneys, bones, immune system, and blood cells.
Duane:
Apparently, cancer has not received the message that Duane is a FIGHTER! We have had enough of this and are rallying together behind Duane to support him on this journey.
He currently is driving an hour to Rochester twice a month for treatment at Mayo Clinic and is preparing for a stem cell transplant on July 11th. He and Gena will need to stay in Rochester for 6 weeks for this procedure.
Duane has brought joy and lots of laughter to so many people; plus he may be the funniest guy you will ever meet.
Please help us do something for him!
Our Goal:
Is to help ease the financial burden associated with:
--non-covered medical costs
--co-pays & medication
--lodging
--parking
--meals
--missed work
--and other miscellaneous unexpected expenses
