Don Lamb's Fight for Flight

Donation protected
For those of you who know Don, you know he’s one of the most hard-working (and hard-headed) men we know. And although he would give anyone he cared for the shirt off his back and spent many years of his life working five days a week only to spend the weekend working on homes for friends and family who needed his help, he would never ask for or even let anyone know he needed help because he wouldn't want anybody worrying about him. That is why today, we are here to finally allow everyone whose lives he has touched to help him because we know there are so many people who have wanted so much to do something, anything for him.

On Wednesday, March 20th, Don was admitted to the Neuro ICU at Saint Luke’s in Kansas City. The family was told he had major brain swelling as well as influenza A. At the time, the cause of this swelling was still unknown.

Thursday afternoon Don was rushed to the OR for an emergency decompressive craniotomy. A CT scan revealed that the swelling of Don's brain was threatening to crush his brain stem. This surgery was necessary to give his brain the room it needed and to give him a fighting chance.

During this procedure doctors took a biopsy of his brain with hopes of narrowing down a diagnosis. While the family waited for answers, doctors and nurses worked around the clock to keep him stable.

Tuesday afternoon the family received some heartbreaking news. They learned Don has a very rare and aggressive form of brain cancer: Grade 3 Glioma Anaplastic Astrocytoma. This type of cancer is incurable and is thought to be throughout the entire right side of his brain and has possibly infiltrated his brain stem making it inoperable. In order for any treatment to be considered, there must be major signs of improvement in his health.

The last couple of days Don has once again been the one working to give his family the encouragement they need by squeezing hands, nodding yes and no, giving thumbs up, and even giving fist bumps.

Although the time Don has left is still unknown, we set this page up to help the Lamb family with the financial aspect that comes when a loved one is in the ICU and the possibility of ongoing cancer treatment if he reaches that point of health. Even the smallest amount will make a difference.

No family is more deserving or grateful- please keep Donnie and the rest of the Lamb family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your generosity.
