First and foremost, we are deeply sorry if you are now learning of Don Breland’s illness for the first time, and we realize it is likely a shock to many. For a long while, he has requested that his condition be kept private. Although we have wanted to share the news with those that care about him, we have tried to respect that request. We also realize that you may want to pass on your regards to Don after reading this, but we kindly ask that you DO NOT contact him directly, as he is needing much rest and speaking is quite difficult these days. If you choose to donate, feel free to leave a message for him in a comment with your donation, and we will make sure he receives it.
In January of 2017, Don was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. After months of treatment, he was declared cancer-free. Unfortunately the cancer recurred a short time later and was detected in a couple of different areas of the body. For now, Don is getting rest in between immunotherapy treatments, which we are hoping are successful in bringing him relief and potentially getting him healthy once again. In the meantime, he is unable to do the two things that paid the bills, but more importantly, brought him so much joy: playing music and taking pictures. His wife is also unable to work, as she spends every day ensuring he receives the care he needs.
As the news of Don’s condition has reached more family and friends, many have inquired about how they can show their support. In response to those wanting to help, this GoFundMe was organized by his three children, Taylor, Chandra and Evan. The funds raised will assist with groceries, home repairs, bills and, of course, medical expenses.
The going is getting tougher and tougher, but we thank everyone who has loved on us recently. I promise we’ll love on Dad in return.
