Destyn Hardeman, a beautiful baby girl who was born with Esophageal Atresia (EA). EA is a birth defect where the infant's esophagus is not connected to the stomach. This prevents anything that usually travels down the esophagus (food, liquid, and saliva) from reaching the stomach. She has also struggled with respiratory issues due to tracheoesophageal fistulas (an opening between the esophagus and trachea that allows anything that enters the esophagus to pass into the trachea, causing terrible respiratory infections). Destyn has been hospitalized in the Atlanta area for the majority of her life with multiple procedures that have been attemped to correct the defect. In fact, she will be turning 1 year old on May 12, 2017.
Most recently, she has been transported to Boston Children's Hospital in Massachusetts to receive care from the best in this field and undergo a life saving procedure. On May 9, 2017, Destyn underwent major surgery. Her esophagus and trachea were sucessfully repaired. However, the family later received a phone call that evening with shocking news. Destyn's heart stopped beating.
Hospital staff performed CPR for approximately 45 minutes until they could get her on a support machine called "ECMO". This machine does the job of the heart and lungs while doctors try to figure out the next step. At this point, it is unknown what caused this tragedy after a successful surgery, but Destyn is fighting for her life. She is currently considered one of the sickest children at Boston Children's Hospital.
Thessaly & Dwayne, Destyn's parents, have been strong through this long process while juggling work and raising three additional children. This has now become a situation where Destyn needs as many PRAYERS and SUPPORT from as many people as we can reach. There are numerous medical expenses that have not been covered by insurance and the family needs your help. Thessaly & Dwayne have been and will continue to fly back and forth from Atlanta to Boston on a frequent basis to manage Destyn's care and their family at home. They will also have to temporarily relocate to the Boston area to be closer to Destyn. There will be additional costs for Destyn's rehabilitative care in the future. First and foremost we are asking for prayers for her recovery. Please help Destyn and her family by donating what you can to ease the financial burden.
