Support Candy's Cancer Treatment

This our beautiful Mother, Candace Wishart. She has greatly impacted the lives of many in her 54 years of life as a daughter, sister, auntie, mother, grandmother, wife, friend and mentor.

On May 20, 2018, Mom was in a minor car accident that could not be easily explained. A CT scan was ordered which revealed a large tumor on her right temporal lobe, so an MRI was scheduled for two days later and the results were confirmed by a neurosurgeon. It was his recommendation that this 80mm tumor be removed immediately, rearranging his schedule to put Mom at the top of the list for surgery, he was that adamant. In the 7-day duration from the car accident to the 10-hour procedure, there was a significant decline in her coordination and motor skills making it extremely obvious that there was an urgent need to operate. The surgeon was able to remove most of the tumor, however the pathology report later diagnosed Mom with Grade IV Glioblastoma Multiforme; the most aggressive form of brain cancer.

The nearest radiation treatment center, Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre, is located in Kelowna BC, which is a 2.5-hour drive from Mom’s home in Kamloops. She will be receiving both radiation and chemotherapy treatments simultaneously, beginning July 3, 2018. Given the distance, it will be necessary for her to stay at the Southern Interior Rotary Lodge. It will ensure that Mom will have the most opportunity to rest and recover between the daily treatments, and she will have immediate access to the best care possible during this arduous battle.

Following Mom’s 6 weeks of treatments, she will require regular, at home nursing care for an indeterminate amount of time. She is scheduled for a second round of chemotherapy treatment that will be 6 months in duration. We cannot attach a firm cost to the home care, as we do not know how long she will require the support for. For the extent of her initial treatments, and the second round of chemotherapy, it’s possible that the lodging and nursing care combined could go beyond $20,000.00.

First and foremost, your prayers and ongoing support to our family have been incredibly encouraging. Words can’t describe our gratitude.
It is our collective hope that in reaching out, the forthcoming financial burden will be eased as she commits herself to the fight of her life.
Thank you again for your thoughtfulness and your help as we navigate through this emotional and challenging time.
