On Friday, March 18, 2018, Brad and Alicia Dykstra were given the most heartbreaking news that Soren Dykstra, their beautiful, vibrant, and sweet two year old son, was diagnosed with ATRT (Atypical
Teratoid/Rhabdoid Tumor). ATRT is a very rare, fast growing central nervous system/brain tumor that affects young children. Soren had surgery recently to remove the tumor, and will be undergoing chemotherapy/radiation treatment in the upcoming weeks and months.
As you might expect, their world was completely torn apart and Soren will undoubtedly face challenging times ahead. This devastating news has been difficult and overwhelming for Brad and Alicia, and Soren's five year old sister Sylvia, as life as they have known it has forever changed. Brad and Alicia's focus is on helping Soren, and simply loving and supporting him as much as possible as they move forward with Soren's diagnosis and journey.
As Brad and Alicia devote their time and energy to their two children, and inevitably spend time away from work, day to day obligations will be ever present, and will likely weigh heavily on their minds. Undoubtedly they could use our help. Many of us feel a sense of helplessness when our family or friends are confronted with such life changing news.
