Building Character in Sunnyland

Hello! My name is Steven and I am the school counselor for Hensey Elementary School in Sunnyland. I am new to this community, and since I have been here, I have noticed that the kids of this town are extremely kind and have so much potential. To me this is one of the things that defines Sunnyland. However, for some of our kids, Sunnyland also contains some big obstacles. Unfortunately domestic abuse, drug abuse, broken family situations and poverty runs through parts of this tiny community. Here at Hensey
we are focusing strongly on what we call our 'Will of a Wildcat' initiative. It means that with the 'will of a wildcat' (possessing kindness, respect, honesty, effort and citizenship), you can do anything. These kids need to know without a doubt that they CAN do anything, regardless of what is happening around them. Our initiative is huge, with character eduation provided in the classrooms, monthly school-wide events (we even collected 1500 socks for citizenship and got on the news for our respect flashmob!) and a huge buy-in from the students, staff, and even the parents and community. We give out 'Wildcat Dollars' for every time we see a student fulfilling our initiative. In turn, these dollars can be spent in our 'Wildcat Store' every month for fun prizes. We are runnng low on funding and worried that we won't be able to sustain the store much longer. If we could have just $500, we could supply for the rest of the year this small but very important part of empowering these wonderful kids in whatever way we can to make them great future citizens that will go on to make a huge difference in the world. Please help us to do this, it would be beyond appreciated by everyone in this school and community who wants to see this year keep building and creating the impact that it has! Thank you!
