Summit for Lifesavers
Donation protected
THIS IS FOR THE LIFESAVERS!
Please help me to raise vital funds for Lifesavers on 2 sides of the world.
All Donations to this fund will go directly to the Charities
My name is Brian Barnes and I come from Bellewstown in Co. Meath.
Also over the last 2 years or more my friend Terry (Terrence Martin) and I have done a lot of hill walking and peak climbing here in Ireland together and secretly aspired to an Everest Basecamp trek.
During this time 6 of our bravest Lifesavers, 2 RNLI members and the 4 crew of R116 died.
Deeply saddened by this news, we wondered if we could turn our EBC trek into a sort of fundraiser to help our Lifesavers namely RNLI as they are all volunteers and really need the help.
When you see the places I like to climb, you will understand why I feel RNLI are worth supporting.
I am a 49yr old very average rock climber, something I have returned to in the last few years after a 20 odd year gap and am interested
in all things climbing particularly on Facebook. My favourite climbing locations are in and around the Donegal coast, more specifically, Sea Stacks.
I have a lot of climbing friends on Facebook, likeminded lunatics, you might say, but one very special friend in particular is giving me the
opportunity to go much higher. It would be fair to say, I have friends in high places.
His name is Lakpa Sherpa, Managing Director of Pioneer Adventure and member of an elite team of Sherpa climbers who specialise in high
altitude search and rescue. In 2016, he and his friends in the Alpine Rescue Service saved the lives of over 50 people from local villagers to
the highest rescue over recorded from the South summit of Mount Everest over 8400m.
Please watch the following Youtube video with Lakpa and his cousin Mingma David, Anthony Gordon, Jeff Evans and the work of the ARS (Alpine Rescue Service) Himalayan Lifesavers (Rock Stars)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtbQgLIuFyg
Lakpa is a legend of the Alpine climbing world with 5 Everest Summits, Youngest man ever to climb K2 and only man to have climbed it 3 times,
Manaslu, Makalu, Muztagh Ata, Amadablam, and the list goes on and on and he is only 26 years old.
He said he would give up all his summits to save a life.
Lakpa saves lives as part of his job and his commitment to his fellow human beings, but he wants to do more, he wants to give back to his
community and so, together we decided to put this project together with both of us representing organisations dear to our hearts
Our Plan is to Climb Imja Tse (Island Peak) @ 6189m and to raise our RNLI Flag higher than it has ever been raised in the History of the RNLI.
This expedition is only made possible with Lakpa’s help and the very kind support of www.pioneeradventure.com and I will depart for Kathmandu on 28th of February 2018
We decided to dedicate our climb to 2 charities, www.rnli.org and www.soshimalaya.org
Just as RNLI need support here, SOS Himalaya need support in Nepal and they are the Lifesavers that Lakpa has chosen to support because
he believes fundamentally in equality and in education particularly for young girls, to combat human trafficking and improve their healthcare.
