School Supplies for Nahuatl-English Course
Donation protected
In the same way that many of us are interested in Nahuatl, young Nahuas are interested in English. For the entire month of August 2019, Nahua children and young adults in the Chicontepec region of Veracruz will attend a free intensive English class taught in Nahuatl with extensive English immersion. The course is organized by IDIEZ; the teachers (including me) are volunteers with ESL experience, as well as the necessary Nahuatl skills to impart the class. I have benefited from my work with Nahuas, and am thrilled to give back to the community in the manner they have requested.
We are raising funds for supplies for Nahua students and their classroom:
We would like to provide each student with a backpack that includes 2 folders; 2 notebooks; a pencil case with 3 pencils, 3 pens, a pencil sharpener, and 2 erasers; crayons, colored pencils, markers, and a highlighter, a geometry set; and copies of the materials we will use in the class. This will ensure they are ready for the new school year!
For the classroom we hope to acquire 2 whiteboards with markers and erasers; a projector to show images and videos; a screen; and speakers.
**UPDATE: We hope to take the students on a field trip--for most their first ever--to visit El Tajín!
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference in the lives of these young soon-to-be trilingual students. Your collaboration is appreciated!
