Wendy's stroke recovery

Donation protected
My mom, Wendy, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on Feb 19, 2016 at the age of 57. Prior to her stroke, she was an award-winning seashell artist who made Sailor's Valentines and weaver of Nantucket Lightship Baskets, as well as a teacher and a mentor. In addition, she became guardian of her 4 yr old grandson Owen when her daughter could not care for him.

When mom was brought to the hospital, her chances of survival were dim, and she was in a coma for 3 weeks in the ICU. Over the following months, she was transferred to 3 different rehab facilities where her positive attitude and unfailing determination helped her to recover her speech and some limited mobility

On Oct 2, mom was discharged to live with her older cousin Betsy. It is very small and not suitable for her needs, but they make it work with good humor. They laughingly refer to the corner of the dining room where she sleeps as the "Master Bedroom nook." Mom is confined to a wheelchair, and her right arm is not functional.

We realized that it was necessary to hire private aides to assist mom out of bed and ready for her days as well as her nightly bed routines. Mom and Betsy manage as well as they can, but her aide, Catty's care is essential.

What has complicated her recovery is that she is also in the process of divorcing her husband, my father. His continual efforts at delaying the process has frozen all of their assets, and there is no money for her care despite the emergency nature of the situation.

For the past 6 weeks, I have paid for these services with little outside help, but they are way beyond what I can afford. I am very fearful and worried about what will happen to my mom. She has been the best mom any son could ask for. Please help me help her get the care she needs and deserves so that she can continue to live and progress.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am grateful for every dollar.
