One of my main goals coming into college was to study abroad, specifically in France after experiencing the beauty of Paris for several days in high school. As a junior with a major in psychology at UTK, I have finally made it happen! I will be studying abroad in Paris, France with CIEE Open Campus Program from January 8th, 2018 until May 12th, 2018. Studying abroad is an amazing opportunity for educational enrichment and development of cultural fluency, an opportunity I simply could not pass up.
This opportunity would otherwise be impossible if it weren't for the amount of financial aid I am rewarded every year, as studying abroad is not a cheap investment. My financial aid (including Pell grants, HOPE, Volunteer scholarship, TN Promise, etc.) and scholarships I have received (CIE Undergraduate Study Abroad scholarship) cover my tuition of $17,000. However, I still have to buy a round-trip plane ticket to get to Paris and back, as well as other expenses like books, food, and transportation costs.
I am currently a full-time student, working as a server part-time. I just need a little extra help to pay for all the extra expenses, while I continue to do my part by working nights. I am also willing to babysit, dogsit, or clean house if I am in your area!
This is an amazing academic opportunity, but, more importantly, it is a huge step towards a professional career in the future. I hope to learn as much as I possibly can, both inside and outside the classroom. Complete immersion into a foreign culture will change the way I look at the world forever, and this is honestly a dream come true. Any donation, of ANY size, will enable me to do this!
