My name is Grace Kent and I am currently in my second year of my degree. Throughout my 3 years, I spend roughly 50% on clinical placement working on different hospital wards and within the community. As part of my training, I am required to complete an elective placement of my choice.
Which is why in just under a years time in August 2019, I will be undertaking in a four week elective nursing placement with the organisation Work the World, in Iloilo in The Philippines.
During this time, I’ll be working on different hospital wards such as surgical, rehabilitation and maternity. I will be learning and working alongside nurses, doctors and other professions who have trained in the Philippines and learn how to deliver the best possible healthcare with very limited resources. During my forth and final week, I will be moving to a village to stay with a local family to learn about how they deliver healthcare in a community environment.
This truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to experience! I know this will be an amazing learning opportunity, both personally and for my career.
The trip is completely self-funded. Juggling a degree, full time unpaid placement hours and a full time job, can be very difficult! If you would like to contribute I would be incredibly grateful. Any donations, little or large, will go a long way.
